Howdo soul folks, here's an update on events past & present over on the West Coast...
Match Report - Irish Club 7th August 2010
Thanks everybody for the positive feedback on another blinding night at the Irish Club, the 80+ patrons were there for one thing only - 5 hours of class Northern Soul - and one look at the sample playlists below confirms that this was delivered. This gig will probably go down in history as the one and only time we had 2 rooms on the go at the same time - towards the end some floorboard space was cleared at the back of the room to create a miniature Mr Ms. And how about the new shiny floor, what an excellent surface we now have, should save Joan a fortune in talc! Good to see Nick from Melbourne clearly having a ball (he relocated here 8 weeks ago) together with several folk returning after lay-offs. Here a sample of what was on the decks:-

Next Gig - 4th September 2010 - Winter Alldayer
This annual event will be preceded by a quiz starting at 1pm and ending just ahead of the first DJ at 2pm. Simple format - I'll play a few seconds intro of about 20 records and 2 teams will attempt to identify the artist, song title & original label. The teams are as follows but anyone is welcome to come and watch the shenanigans.
Team #1
Steve Parker
Graham Spilsbury
Alan Bratt
Team #2
Pete Guy
Ronnie Pearce
Ian Parker
Here's the roster for the event itself, let me know as soon as you can if you can't make your allocated slot. 11 hours of Northern Soul = 265 choons = F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C. Let's try and get a good early crowd to support the first DJs.

Next One - 2nd October 2010
With me, Al, Kev & Denny all absent, Steve Parker & Graham have kindly agreed to run this gig - roster below:
Warm-up Graham Spilsbury
8:30 Pete Guy
9:30 Alan Bratt
10:15 Van Astbury
11:00 Paul Hannigan
12:00 Steve Parker
One After That - 6th November 2010 - Newies Night
Well we've had an oldies night so this is a logical move. Don't worry, it doesn't mean every record will be obscure or shite, quite the opposite - the concept is each of the DJs will play 50% recognised Northern and 50% underplayed or never spun at the Irish Club, all dancers and blended together at their discretion. There are thousands of top quality records in collections over here that seldom or never see the light of day, so here's the chance to listen and dance to them. Remember, all of today's much loved oldies were once newies.
6 Month Lookahead
Here's the next 6 month block, subject to adjustment. Let me know if you can't make it:-

6th Hitsville Rare Soul Weekender – Mojacar, Spain – 16th to 19th September 2010
Denny & myself are guesting again at this fantastic weekender in the south of Spain right on the Mediterranean Sea. 4 days & nights of excellent company and some absolutely eye-watering vinyl so if you're planning a trip to UK or Europe around that time, it's well worth the effort to organise a cheap side trip on Easyjet, contact me for more details. Click here: soul-source.co.uk
New Century Soul Allnighter, Radcliffe Civic Suite, Manchester – 25th September 2010
I also managed to get a spot in UK on the Spain trip so if you find yourself in NW England on this date, don't miss what is fast becoming the premier rare soul event in UK. Click here: soul-source.co.uk
13th Aussie Nash - Sydney 2010 - 12th, 13th & 14th November - "Gonna Be A Big Thing"
If you haven't booked your flights & hotels yet for the southern hemisphere's biggest soul happening, it's time to get your skates on, there's less than 3 months to go! Una & the NSW team confirm that arrangements are going very well, with all venues sorted and a website up and running. Go here for all the details www.sydneysoulscene.com where you'll see that the 3 days have been stretched to 5 with an early birds session on Thursday 11th and a chill-out on Monday 15th.
Please forward this email to anyone of a similar persuasion that you think may not be on this distribution list....
